Re: Cumberland Council Meeting Thread

I am pretty much in agreement with Kateena. In order for the city to grow and prosper, we all must learn to work together and until that happens, we will be stuck in the past. Also, laws that have been broken for years, can not continue to be broken whether it be pay wages or what not.

Re: Cumberland Council Meeting Thread

My understanding is the rates are being increased, but it will not be that noticable to citizens because the surcharge is coming off.

Re: Cumberland Council Meeting Thread

The suggested rate increase is a recommendation. It is left up to the council to approve it or not. The same with suggested tax increases, etc. They can be approved, or not. It is left up to the council. What I have read so far as solutions to help, are great ideas but they are long term ideas. For...

Re: Cumberland Council Meeting Thread

I checked that out. If the rates increase as suggested, Cumberland would be the 2nd highest in the county on base water rates and the highest on outside of city limit service. Right now, Lynch has the highest base in city rate at a $28 and change. Are the larger the city class usually more expensiv...

Re: Cumberland Council Meeting Thread

3 council members showed up. I have to disagree with the Guest post that it is greed and the implication that no one listens. Rather than base your opinion on misleading information attend a meeting or two and address your concerns during the meetings. I know for a fact that ALL the council and may...

Re: Cumberland Council Meeting Thread

As a council member, I am also under the impression that the city finances are doing fairly well except for a past due bond payment which I am sure the mayor and the clerk's office is working to ensure is paid in a timely manner. I would like to say I want the surcharged removed and would like to no...

Re: Cumberland Council Meeting Thread

Just to sort of clarify, this year is not a normal election year for city council. That may have something to do with lack of people running. They simply might not have realized a seat was open. The reason why a seat is available is because when the new council took over in January, one of them tha...

Re: Parade July 21, 2011

These types of parades use to happen a lot with middle school and high school sports in the early to mid 2000s. When the ball teams or cheerleaders would place first, we would have a parade with police escorts and usually the fire and ambulance escorting the buses of players and cheerleaders from co...

Re: Cumberland Council Meeting Thread

I am not for or against having the golf carts. I can see the positives and negatives.

I wanted to consider the 1st reading and just not have a 2nd reading so we could bring it back up.

The ATVs pose almost the same questions except they wouldn't be riding up main street on a daily basis.

Re: Cumberland Council Meeting Thread

They are not sure what to say as to why the voted against golf carts. I voted against golf carts mainly because of liability issues. Not for reasons that do not make any sense like people drag racing them. What would the liabilities be? If atv's are not a liability I can't figure out how a golf car...
