Can anyone tell me about this place? Is it worth a 3 hour drive to visit?

It has been many years since I was last there. I used to go there a lot and remember it being a good place to take my son swimming, etc. I have no idea if there have been any changes or additions though.

I've heard of Bad Branch Falls, but never been there. Where exactly is it? And what is there?

Take 119 to the foot of Pine Mountain in Letcher County, turn right (there is a sign) just before you start up the mountain. Drive several miles (don't remember how many) and you will see signs directing you into the area, etc. There is Bad Branch Falls, a boat ramp, a beach area for swimming, hiking trails, etc. Or at least there was the last time I was there many years ago.

I have been out in Harlan County..been pretty much everywhere in the county..and there isn't much entertainment..lol You have to make your own I guess, we always did growing up. I remember when we had the skating rink, bowling alley, atleast that was something. Now the movies is our number one form of entertainment left other than the resturaunts and gas stations. Or hanging out at the commissary lol. I would be happy if we could actually get this "so called" water park that has been in discussion for two years or more. That would be wonderful, but I don't see that happening.

I agree with you meadow. Not everyone enjoys outdoor sports and that seems to be what is left for everyone to do or leave town to do it, like bowling skating, shopping, etc. I know a lot of people who go elsewhere to water parks. The water isn't safe to go swimming in the lake, creeks or river anymore. Heck, I'd say people would love to see a public pool here again.

Y'all throw some damn good pity parties. Whiny whine whine. Harlan's number one problem is everyone complains about what they don't have and don't even know what they do have right out their back door. I bet if y'all spend the time an effort you spent on whining on finding your strengths and assets, Harlan County would be the best damned county in Kentucky.
