Has that area been tested for oil or natural gas? Considering a oil company bought it.

Good question, and I have no clue.

There are already gas and oil wells at Highsplint. All of the property has been core drilled over the years, so who knows for sure.

With gas/oil on it probably. Maybe they'll put some people to work.

Tourism jobs are typically low paying jobs, while gas/oil are much higher.

They'll put in wells and/or pipelines and once their done there are no jobs cept the truck guy that comes and empty's the tanks ever so often...

What you don't think about is most of the tourists are spending money at restaurants, gas stations, and grocery stores, in addition to their lodging. On an average of over $150 bucks a person overall. Considering I am lodging no less than a 150 people minimum (sometimes upward of 400+) at my place a weekend from mid March to late November - that'd be a lot of lost income to many businesses.

As for my business we spend probably around 125k locally a year, let alone what our employees spend with their income.

And keep in mind they'll be bringing their own mining crews/drill crews so again no jobs for locals.

You are 100% correct on all points. Private industry that brings long term employment providing a living wage, is far different that private industry ventures that don't. Neither should be promoted to displace tourism.

The economic growth agencies within the fiscal court, should be looking for opportunities to enhance long term employment that will provide a living wage. Taxing oil and gas revenues can offset some of the losses experiened with the losses of coal severence taxes, but it will not offset the benefit of establishing policies to attract and keep long term employment industries.

The Offroad Park has been sold to a company from Texas. Everything will stay the same. The county will still be over the park, but most likely we will have some creatively placed oil/gas wells.

The company will be making money from the minerals. They don't care about the business side being ran into the ground.

It was a 25 year lease, should be about 19 or 20 more years left.
