Matt Bevin's Budget Highlights

Postby GFunkMoneyDog » Thu Jan 28, 2016 9:59 am

I didn't get to watch his speech but had someone texting me highlights. Below are several things he mentioned.

100% of lottery will now be going to education.
4.8 million to social services
$964,100 to guardianship management
To many state workers working overtime
DNA backlog. 4.5 million going to it immediately
12.4 million increase to KSP salaries.
4.5 million to corrections officers
6.2 million to hire public defenders. 44 new attorneys. Case load is currently 514 cases per attorney.
Heroin & Opiate addiction. 10 million in 2016, 6.3 million in 2017 for rehabs and substance abuse counseling
6.4 million for Kasper
Kynect will be shut down. People will have to use the Federal Exchange
Bridge Repair
Widening interstate lanes
10 million for airports
No tax cuts at this time. We can't afford it.

Ill have to read more about it, but it sounds so far like a decent budget.

No tax increases, state workers aren't getting raises, and most state agencies are losing money.

Why is it so expensive to attend college? I will tell you why. It's because of the massive salaries that professors receive. I know one professor personally who makes over $100,000.00 a year at Southeast.

To make so much at a community college is ridiculous. A 20th year teacher at elementary schools only makes about $46,000-48,000 a year and they're way more important and have hell of a lot harder time teaching kids than teaching adults. If it wasn't our youngsters' teachers they would be a bunch of dummies not able to even attend college.
